My History With Web-APP I became involved with the Web-APP Project in 2001 when it was first hosted on Carter Brown's site at mcarterbrown.com. It wasn't sooner after this that the domain name "web-app.org" became the home of the project and Carter set my account as one of the admins. My first real, productive use of the script was with version 0.3 which was pretty much considered an "alpha" back then. One of my favorite releases back then was actually 0.9.3, and I have to admit, I still use it on my old Intranet machine. :) Ever since then I've been tinkering around with the older versions and offering support for Intranet versions with security, etc. I soon started tinkering with PHP and started laying out the plans to port it to a flaftile PHP version. Out of courtesy to Carter, I asked him if I could use one of the older version as the basis of my port and that it would be hosted on yazaport.com - a domain I had for hosting free home pages and for PHP and simple Perl scripts. Carter wrote back and said I could have the older version. Web-APP has been a very addictive project and I have had a very good experience with the older crew which consisted of Ditto, Kat, Bantychick (Jos Brown) and others. There were several developers back then. Most of the old timers are gone now, but Bantychick is still around and writes almost 100% of the code and keeps it up to date. Many have come and gone and some have gone out on their own to create their own versions of what they call "webapp", and while some of these outside of the web-app.org development team claim to be the original developers, it's a fact that they haven't been around since 2001. We haven't gone anywhere and the script, largely to Bantychick's determination and hard work, continues to be developed. The Web-APP script, originally from mcarterbrown.com and web-app.org, has always been licensed under GNU-GPL (General Public License). It's this license and the philosophy behind it, in providing free software to others who wish to help with its continuing development, that keeps the Web-APP Project open and free for all people. This is how it's been since 2001. I'm proud to say that I'm a part of the Web-APP.org team. Web-APP Executive Suite™, Web-APP Workstation Plus™ and Web-APP Intranet - Since 2001.
